Buying and selling properties in Portugal!

Buying or selling a property in Portugal is not much different from other EU countries but there are obviously some details to consider before closing a deal.
The bureaucracy is still heavy in Portugal why it is important to have a good local legal tax advisor.

The normal way to own a property in Portugal is through a free hold,meaning that you are owner of an apartment,a parking space,a villa,etc,and have the legal title.Consequently the process of obtaining a mortage is rather facilitated.

Apart from the normal running costs,there is property tax and a several tax to be paid on a yearly basis.If you are living in a flat you will be charged from the common expenses (elevators,security,gardening,etc) by the condominium association.

If you are buying a newly produced property,the builder or developer,has the legal obligation to repair defects during a period of five years from completion.
